Welcome to the Pompey Buses website

In May 2009 Pompey Study Centre launched two new Education & Health Buses in conjunction with First Hants and Dorset, Hampshire Learning and Portsmouth Primary Care Trust. The buses will be used for a variety of projects in the community – keep an eye open for a Pompey bus near you!

The Pompey Health Bus

The Pompey Health bus has 10 laptops as well as a screen and interactive voting system to deliver a wide variety of educational and health awareness activities.

The Pompey Health Bus is a joint project between Portsmouth Football Club, Portsmouth Primary Care Trust (PCT) and First Hants and Dorset. The bus will be used by the PCT to deliver a variety of activities to raise awareness of issues such as the importance of cancer screening, breast feeding, healthy eating and healthy lifestyles etc.

The bus will also be used by Pompey Study Centre to visit local schools to deliver the “Kick Start Health” programme to promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyles, with all activities linked to Pompey FC.

Portsmouth PCT works in partnership with Portsmouth City Council, other organisations including other NHS trusts, voluntary groups – and with the public – to achieve thier main aim, which is to improve the health of people in Portsmouth and ensure that everyone has appropriate access to high quality health care services.

The Pompey Learning Bus

The Pompey Learning has 8 laptops as well as a screen to deliver a wide variety of introductory and education programmes. This bus will also be used by First Hants and Dorset to deliver NVQ courses to their staff.

The Pompey Learning Bus is a joint project between Hampshire Learning, Portsmouth Football Club, and First Hants and Dorset. Hampshire Learning supports adult and family learning courses across Havant and Leigh Park at a wide range of venues including schools, children’s centres, community centres, through voluntary organisations and now aboard the Pompey Bus!. Much of the provision is funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and delivered through a network of providers.

One of the aims of Hampshire Learning is to develop and strengthen a network of adult and family learning providers across the county. Clearly there are many other providers of learning in Hampshire including further education colleges, many more voluntary and community organisations and private training organisations. In time it is hoped that other sectors, including health services, will work in partnership with Hampshire Learning to share knowledge about teaching, training and learning opportunities.
